Back to LOCALIZATION Module 2-A : Localization of Software and Web Sites

After having conducted a survey on the return on investment of the localization projects, Software in Europe localizes the software, the training courses on software, and the Web sites of the software publishers and Web application service providers. Our localization and translation services are delivered using rigorous project management methodology :

  • Project evaluation and search of already localized components
  • The propositions provided are clear and detailed, no unexpected surprises in terms of over budgeting, project delays, etc.

  • Plan in Tune with the software publisher
  • The schedule is regularly communicated and updated in order to review modifications or new demands and prevent unexpected surprises on the project time-frame or in the case of simultaneous launches in several countries.

  • Preparation of the translation environment and glossaries
  • • Preparation, control and marking of the files and templates, graphics extraction, validation of the volume.
    • Implementation of an SLDX or Trados translation environment, and of a reference site for what concerns Web sites.
    • The utilization of translation memories and glossaries supplied to all translators and updated in real time guarantees the consistency of the translation.

  • Translation of the software or Web site
  • • Translation of the user interface, help files, user manuals and training materials of the software.
    • Translation of the texts, graphics and tags of the Web site.

  • • Adaptation of the software functionalities and data so that they are relevant and compliant with the laws and practices of the concerned countries : time and date display, measure system, format of the numbers and currencies, example data, etc.
    • Adaptation of the hypertext links of the Web site according to local data.

  • Localization of the packaging
  • For packaged software, translation of the documents and forms included with the product, the packaging, adaptation of some parameters such as the colors, the graphics or some legal phrases to what is more culturally acceptable.

  • Localization of the multimedia contents
  • • Translation of videos, audio contents and images
    • Management of the technical production: mixing, editing, sound dubbing, subtitling, etc.

    • Control of the links, the data and the format
    • Verification and adaptation of the length of the character strings

  • Complete tests of functional and linguistic quality (QA)
  • The scripts of the source version and tools such as HtmlQA and HelpQA ensure that all of the software or Web site functions are active, while rigorous tests are made on the translation and spelling quality.

  • Reporting and project control
  • The software publisher receives a weekly report informing him about the status of his project, and may contact the responsible person. In addition, meetings or conference calls are set up on a regular basis.

  • Domain names registration, site referencing and hosting
  • • The domain names are registered in the various European countries
    • The site is referenced and indexed in the search engines and Internet directories
    • The site hosting is managed in the frame of our service suppliers management services.

  • Updates of localized Web sites
  • In the frame of our Web site support agreements, the changes made by the software publisher to its sites are localized and incorporated with no delay in the local sites, thanks to the use of performing technologies.

In case it is required, Software in Europe delivers some technical recommendations on the changes required to the software to make it internationalized, i.e. adapted to localization. Finally, we carry out complete Web site and application development services for software publishers or their subsidiaries in Europe.

The Software in Europe "plus" :

  •   Original propositions designed to reduce your initial localization investment
Localization is one of the areas that has a substantial impact on budgets of small/medium size software publishers developing their business in Europe. As software professionals, we work with you to estimate the sales potential of the localized versions of your software, and when possible we propose you a localization contract with a reduced initial investment and the payment of royalties on each localized release sold.

  •   A true technological know how
The Software in Europe technical consultants are experienced project developers and managers. They perfectly understand the languages and techniques of software development, they master the HTML, ASP or PHP formats and they use the professional environments found on the market such as Dreamweaver or Java.

  •   A performing IT infrastructure
The utilization of the SDLX environment from SDL, one of the most performing computer aided translation platforms on the market, allows :
    •  An increased consistency of the final translation
    •  Various formats of reusable translation memories (Trados, TMX2) allowing in particular to keep and reuse the already translated materials for future localizations
    •  An easy translation and rebuild of the user interfaces from the Windows 32-bits executables
    •  The support of numerous output formats, HTML, XML, SGML, PPT, FrameMaker, etc.
    •  A significant decrease of the costs and translation delays.
